This Privacy Policy describes how LogicGateGames LLC handles information when you use Permitto (the "App"), a study app for the US learner's-permit written test. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.
1. Your Progress Stays On Your Device
Permitto keeps your study progress in a private database on your phone: the state you chose, the questions you answered and whether you got them right, and your exam scores. There is no account, no sign-in and no sync. We operate no servers for your progress, so there is nowhere for it to be sent.
The App does use the internet: to fetch advertisements, to ask for your ad consent where the law requires it, to talk to Google Play about purchases, and to send a crash report if the App crashes. Your answers and scores are not part of any of these.
2. Information Collected By The Services In The App
We do not collect your name, email address or phone number, and we do not sell personal information. The Google services built into the App do collect data, and we list them here because having no server of our own is not an exemption:
- Google AdMob - Shows ads to users who have not bought Pro. Collects the Advertising ID (a resettable device identifier), ad interaction data, device model, operating system version, and approximate location derived from your IP address. You can reset or delete the Advertising ID in your device settings.
- Google User Messaging Platform - Where the law requires it, asks for your consent to personalised ads and stores your answer on your device. You can change your answer at any time in the App's Settings, under "Ad privacy choices".
- Firebase Crashlytics - If the App crashes, or hits certain errors it recovers from, a report is sent so we can fix the problem. It contains the technical details of the error, the device model, Android version, app version, a random installation ID and which app installed Permitto (for example Google Play). If the App finds that it is a modified copy rather than the version published on Google Play, it sends one such report with the signing certificate's fingerprint of that copy, so we can see that altered copies exist. Reports contain no name, email or advertising ID and none of your study data. Reports are kept for up to 90 days.
- Google Play Billing - Handles the one-time Pro purchase. Google tells the App whether you own it. We never see your card or payment details.
3. What Is Stored On Your Device
- The state you are studying for, your language and appearance settings.
- Each answer you give (which question, right or wrong, and when) and your exam results, used to show your readiness, your mistakes and your progress by topic.
- Whether you have bought Pro, and your ad-consent answer.
Your progress may be included in Android's own device backup if you have it turned on, so that it can come back on a new phone; that backup is handled by Google under your Google account. Your purchase status and your consent answer are not included - a purchase is restored from Google Play, and consent is asked again. Everything is removed when you uninstall the App.
4. Export And Import
You can save your progress to a file and load it on another phone. This only happens when you ask for it, and Android asks you where the file goes. Once saved, the file is under your control; if you put it somewhere that syncs to a cloud service, that service's terms apply to it. The file never contains your purchase - Pro is restored from Google Play.
5. Read Aloud
If you use Read aloud, the App passes the question on screen to your phone's text-to-speech service, chosen in Android's settings. That service, not Permitto, handles the speech, under its own terms.
6. Reporting A Problem With A Question
If you report a question, the App opens your email app with a message addressed to us that contains the question's reference number. Nothing is sent unless you send that email yourself, and we use it only to check and correct the question.
7. Children
Permitto is meant for people preparing for a learner's permit, who are at least 14 to 16 years old in most states. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them.
8. Not A Government App
Permitto is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to any state DMV or government agency. Its questions are written by us from each state's driver handbook, published by that state's motor vehicle agency.
9. Changes To This Policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
