This Privacy Policy describes how LogicGateGames LLC collects, uses, and shares information when you use Folio. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
We do not collect your name, email address, account details, or the contents of your documents. The App uses no sign-in of any kind. Third-party services used by the App collect limited technical and usage data:
- Google AdMob - Displays ads to free users. Collects the Advertising ID (a resettable device identifier), ad interaction data, device model, OS version, and approximate location derived from your IP address. You can reset this ID in your device settings, or remove ads entirely by purchasing Premium.
- Firebase Analytics - Measures how the App is used. Collects app usage events (screens opened, tools used, purchases made), an app-instance ID, the Advertising ID, device type, OS version, app version, and approximate country derived from your IP address. It never includes the content of your documents.
- Google User Messaging Platform - Shows the consent form used in the EEA, the UK and other regions that require one, and records the choice you make there. That choice is what determines whether ads may be requested at all and whether the ads you see are personalised. If you were shown that form, you can reopen it and change your answer at any time from the App’s Settings screen, under “Ad Preferences”. Withdrawing consent takes effect immediately, without restarting the App.
- Google Play Billing - Handles in-app purchases. Payment data is managed by Google.
- Google Play Core - Provides the in-app rating prompt and app updates. It does not receive anything about your documents.
- Google Fonts (via Google Play services) - The App's interface typeface is requested from the font provider built into Google Play services rather than shipped inside the App. No information about you or your documents is part of that request.
- Firebase Crashlytics - Collects crash logs, diagnostic device information, and a Crashlytics installation identifier to help fix bugs. No personal data included.
- ML Kit - On-device document scanning, text recognition, and AI features. No images or document text sent to our servers. On devices that support it, AI features use Gemini Nano, an on-device model provided by Android (Google AICore); the App asks for it to be downloaded in the background when it starts, over your internet connection, which may use mobile data. On other devices a simpler method that runs entirely inside the App is used instead. The Smart Extract tool uses an English language model from ML Kit that is downloaded from Google, either along with the App or the first time you use the tool. Nothing from your documents is sent anywhere as part of either download.
Advertising and usage data described above is shared with Google for advertising, ad measurement, analytics, and fraud prevention. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with anyone else.
2. PDF Files and Documents
All PDF files you use with Folio are processed entirely on your device. We do not upload or access your files.
If Android backup is turned on for your device, the App’s settings and your list of starred documents are included in Android’s backup to your Google account. Your documents, bookmarks, annotations and reading history are not part of that backup; Settings > Backup lets you export them to a file you choose and import them again, for example on a new phone.
3. Permissions
- All files access - Folio requests the All files access permission so it can find, open and save PDFs anywhere on your device rather than only in a folder it owns. It is used solely to read and write documents you choose. Files are never uploaded, and nothing is read in the background.
- Camera - Used when you photograph a handwritten signature in the Add Signature tool. Document scanning is performed on your device by the scanner built into Google Play services. Photos never uploaded.
- Internet - Required for ads, in-app purchases, crash reports and usage analytics, the interface typeface, and the one-time downloads of the on-device models described above. Your documents are never sent over it.
- Ad ID - Used by AdMob for relevant ads. Can be opted out in device settings.
4. App Lock
If you turn on App Lock, the PIN you set is never stored as typed: the App keeps only a salted, one-way hash of it. That hash is kept with the App’s settings, so it is included in Android’s backup to your Google account if you have that turned on. It is never sent to us, and we cannot recover your PIN for you. Fingerprint or face unlock, where you enable it, is handled entirely by Android; the App never receives your biometric data.
5. In-App Purchases
Premium subscriptions, the Premium lifetime purchase and the Remove Ads purchase are handled entirely by Google Play. We do not receive payment details. When a purchase completes, the App records the product purchased, its price, and its currency in Firebase Analytics so we can measure conversions. No payment method or card details are ever recorded.
6. Advertising
Free users see ads via Google AdMob. You can opt out of personalised ads in device Settings under Google - Ads. You can also purchase Remove Ads in the app.
7. Children
Folio is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
8. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance.
