This Privacy Policy describes how LogicGateGames LLC handles information when you use Diurna. By using the App you agree to the practices described here.
1. Diurna Does Not Send Your Writing Anywhere
Diurna has no feature that sends your entries anywhere - not to us, not to an analytics service, not to anyone. The App's only uses of the network are a crash report if the App crashes, and Google Play when you buy or restore the optional unlock (see section 2). Neither ever contains your writing, photographs, voice notes or videos. Everything you write, and every photograph, voice note and video you attach, stays on your device.
We operate no servers and there is no account, no sign-in, and no sync. There is nowhere for your journal to be sent, even in principle.
2. Information We Collect
We do not collect your name, email address, or any account details. There is no analytics service and no advertising in the App. The only thing we receive is a crash report if the App crashes (see Firebase Crashlytics below).
- Firebase Crashlytics - If the App crashes, Crashlytics sends a crash report so we can fix the problem. A report contains the error's technical details (stack trace), device model, Android version, app version, and a random Crashlytics installation ID. It never includes your content, such as your planner entries, and it contains no name, email or advertising ID. Reports are processed by Google and kept for up to 90 days. We do not sell or share them.
- Google Play Billing - The optional one-time unlock is sold and restored through Google Play. Google handles the payment under its own privacy policy; the App only learns whether the unlock has been purchased. We never see your payment details.
3. What Is Stored On Your Device
Diurna keeps a private database on your phone containing the things you put in it:
- The pages you open, and what you write on them.
- The photographs, voice notes and videos you attach to a page.
- Any reminder you set, and when it should next fire.
- Your preferences, such as the page styles you have chosen.
This data is readable only by the App. It is not included in Android's cloud backup, and it is removed when you uninstall Diurna.
Some of it can appear outside the App when you ask for it: a reminder notification shows the text of the line it belongs to, and the optional home-screen widget shows the entries of a page on your home screen. The widget and notifications are shown by Android whether or not the app lock is switched on.
4. Photographs, Voice Notes And Videos
When you attach a photograph or a video, Diurna asks Android's photo picker for that single item. It does not request access to your photo library, so it cannot see any picture or video you have not chosen. A voice note is recorded with your device's microphone, only while you are recording.
The App then saves its own copy of each attachment inside its private storage. It does this so your journal entry still shows the picture or clip if you later move or delete the original from your gallery. That copy is stored on your device only, is never transmitted by the App, and is deleted when you remove it from the page or uninstall the App. When you play a video, Diurna hands that one file to a video player on your device for playback.
5. Exporting Your Writing
Diurna can write your journal to a file: a complete backup (a ZIP archive that includes your photographs, voice notes and videos), or your writing as Markdown, JSON or PDF. This only ever happens when you ask for it, and Android asks you to choose where the file is saved. Once saved, that file is outside the App and under your control - if you place it somewhere that syncs to a cloud service, that service's own privacy terms apply to it. Diurna itself does not upload it.
6. Permissions
- Internet - Used only to send a crash report if the App crashes and to reach Google Play for the optional unlock. Never used to send your entries, photographs, voice notes or videos.
- Microphone - Used only to record a voice note, and requested the first time you tap Record, not when the App starts. If you decline, everything else works normally.
- Notifications - Used to show the reminders you set. If you decline, the App works normally and simply does not notify you.
- Alarms and reminders - Lets a reminder arrive at the time you asked for rather than whenever the system next chooses to wake the App. Optional; without it reminders still arrive, just less precisely.
- Run at startup - Used solely to restore your existing reminders after the device restarts, because Android clears scheduled alarms on reboot.
- Biometrics - Used only if you switch on the optional app lock, so Android can check your fingerprint, face, or screen lock before opening your journal. Diurna never receives your fingerprint or face data; it asks Android whether the check passed and is told only yes or no. We store no PIN, password, or hash of our own.
Diurna requests no other permissions. In particular it does not request storage access, location, contacts, or your photo library.
7. Children
Diurna is not directed at children. The App collects no personal information from anyone of any age; apart from a purchase made through Google Play, the only thing it sends is a crash report, which contains no name, email or content.
8. Your Rights
We hold no personal data about you, so there is nothing for us to give you a copy of, correct, or erase. The only thing that reaches us is a crash report if the App crashes; it contains no name, email or advertising ID and is deleted automatically after 90 days. Everything else is on your device: you can export it at any time from within the App, and uninstalling removes all of it.
9. Changes To This Policy
We may revise this policy. The date above reflects the latest version, and any material change will be reflected in the App before it takes effect.
